"hmm, I see. so you are really the best of the best?" Tilting her head a little Shira smiled at Zack and figured quietly too herself that even if he wasn't really the cream of the crop, he'd certainly be good to have around for protection at least till she found out more about what was going on. Turning to Arleen she said "what about you? Are you from around here?"

I shook my head, my amusement fading away at the remembrance of my situation. "No, in fact, I'm far from home." Cocoon was a ways away and it would take a while on foot to get there. I shook the feeling off, almost visibly, trying to take up a happy attitude. "I'm a soldier from Cocoon. I was a Major in the Guardian Corps... I have no idea what's going on there now."
War, is what was happening, and I was so far away from there I couldn't help. It was partly my fault, I knew, that I wasn't there. I was scared at what I'd find when I returned, and I had all reason to be. It sounded like I'd been away for a while. Regardless, I still didn't understand why I woke up in Gran Pulse. I would find out though, that was certain.
I had too.

"Cacoon eh? Never heard of the place. Probably cause they never sent me on a mission there." Zack said as his fresh beer was brought to him. "What's this Guardian Corps? Is it anything like SOLDIER?" He asked as he took a sip of his drink. So far he was the only one who didn't seem stressed out right now and just wanted to keep a light mood between the three of them. He sure as all hell wasn't going to blame it on the four beers he'd already had.
Though Shira seemed like the most lost of the two girls, Zack decided to wait till after Arleen spoke to ask Shira any questions.

Listening to the conversation between Arleen and Zack Shira sat back and tried to just make sense of everything that had happened to her since she had woken up just this morning back home in Jeuno, wich now seemed a lifetime ago...
She still had no idea where she was, or how she had gotten there if she was perfectly honest with herself, and this was starting to make her worried, and that in turn made her angry, but the worst part was, she had noone to really talk to...
Feeling alot more glum all of a sudden she drained her beer and ordered another one

I shrugged at Zack's question. "To be honest, I couldn't really say. SOLDIER sounds like merit is earned more based on singular performance rather than on stragems and other such things." It was odd really, though. I wouldn't go so far as to call this "Shinra Corps'" SOLDIERs a military branch. Maybe more of a body-guard style, but not military. Military was uniform rank with a labyrinth of hierarchies. "In my system, if I were to make a comparison, and remember that this is highly speculative, of what you call a 1st Class SOLDIER, and what we consider as such exceptional soldiers, I might be one of them."
Might was the wrong word for that. I WAS one of them, regardless of not having an equivalent rank. I knew for a fact that it normally took soldiers many years to reach where I was now, and I had only been serving for about two or three. I had reached this level with my own skills and knowledge alone, and I took pride in that.
However, very soon after being promoted, I made an agreement with the PSICOM division to test out a new military technology they were experimenting with. It supposedly augmented the user's reflexes, physical prowess, and thought speed, so as to make a type of super-soldier. It worked, too. It was working even now. Normally, a woman of my stature wouldn't have been able to lift a fully grown man off the ground and suspend him with her foot.
It was soon after the technology had been integrated in me that I blacked out. I honestly couldn't tell if the process had worked; nothing seemed to be wrong with me, but who was I to know the signs? I'd keep the little experiment with PSICOM a secret for myself and only me, though. Chances are it's what caused my blackout, and I didn't need people prying around in my head trying to figure out what it is.

When Arleen had finished Zack turned to Shira. "So what's you're story then?" He asked her. "All I know is you walked into me then dragged me back into the bar." He wasn't exactly arguing as he took another sip from his beer.

Hearing Zacks question, Shira frowned a little and thought about how to reply
"hmm... my story? well, I'm a Monk, from a world called Vana 'diel, I was on my way to the shops in Jeuno this morning when... everything changed and suddenly I was here instead. Shortly after that I came to this Inn, bumped into you and here we are and I'm wondering how I'm gonna get back home...."
Looking at the both of them, she wondered a bit an asked "did you guys also end up here in a similar way, or was it just me?"

I frowned at the girl's story, contemplating. "I woke up in a meadow in a place that was almost barren of any humans. I don't remember much between that and the time I became major." I left out the bit about the PSICOM project, again, for personal reasons. It was peculiar though, that she would've just been dropped off in another place for no reason.
I frowned deeper. "I've never heard of your home before though, so I honestly couldn't say whether you can return there or not..." In the worst case, she's never be able to return. In the best case, she could return as soon as possible. However, that was all based on "ifs".
I didn't like ifs.

Zack listened to Shira explain what happened and where she was from. The name did sound familiar to him but he couldn't place it for the life of him. Then he listened to Arleen and how she had woken up in a field without anyone around.
"I was on my was back from an escort job for some merchants and just stopped for a couple drinks. Guess I'm not as mystical as you two it seems." He tried it to make it a joke when he finished it. He wasn't so sure how he managed that. Though he thought he failed and just decided to shut up and drink his beer.

Looking at Zack Shira smiled a little when she heard his comment. "So, this World is your homeworld then?" Rolling her now half-empty glass on the table as she thought for a little bit and spoke again "would you mind awfully trying to help me look for a way back home, if that's even possible...." looking a little glum again she turned to Arleen and said "if you want, you are welcome to stick with us till you find out what you want to do" and smiled a little

I shook my head at the girl's offer, smiling somewhat melancholic. "I'm afraid I have to refuse that kindness. I have to get back home myself, and I think I have the general direction in which I'll need to travel." I shuffled slightly, nervous but determined. It was something I'd never done before. I had hardly been outside of Cocoon, let alone travel across strange new lands. Chances were I'd find myself in dangerous places, or in awkward situations quite frequently. I could only hope that what I found at the end would be worth it.
I stretched slightly and pushed off the counter. "I thank you for inviting me to join you two, but I best get going. I'm afraid it's probably a long journey that awaits me." With that, I took to my own stride, throwing a condemning glance at the drunkards as I moved to the door. It was always refreshing to meet new people, but all good things had to end.
For my own sanity, I'd rather them end sooner rather than later.

"Sadly no, I come from Midgar. This was just a stop on the way home." Zack said as Shira asked him if he lived here. "I'm just a simple country bumpkin at that, I moved there to join SOLDIER." Shira offered Arleen to join them until they could figure out how to get them back home. "To be honest Shira, I'm not sure how to get you home. I mean, you could come back to Midgar with me and we can go from there but other than that I'm clueless."
Zack went quiet for another moment as he took another drink, finishing off his bottle and asking the waitress for another. He was just glad it took more than six beers before he even got slightly buzzed. "That's what I get for being a country bumpkin I guess." He tried to make a joke out of it. He then listened as Arleen turned down Shira's offer, his new beer coming up at the same time.

Nodding at Arleen Shira said "Well, it might not be a bad idea if we also try to figure out whats really going on here. I mean, it's nice and all but... it's not home" looking at Zack she listened to his offer and said "if I can't find my way home, I just might take you up on the offer but for now, let's just head outside and see if we can find someone who can expain all this to me." Getting up she paid for her drinks and waited for the other two.

I smiled slightly at the girl before holding the door open. I honestly had no clue of this Jueno place, and on the map I'd snagged from Auric temporarily, of course there didn't seem to be any sign of such a place. Taking it into account that there were many places that were new, that never existed before, was this world they were in the product of the deaths of the Fal'Cie...? It was only a speculation, but one that shouldn't be undermined. I didn't want to worry her, but it was possible that that place never existed, or just disappeared. Then one would ask how that comes to pass, but I couldn't answer that. I was only speculating. It was all I could do. I stepped out of the tavern and into the streets of the city, scanning the moving crowd, as was my habit... ... when a voice reverberated throughout the city, calling for submission. ---------------------------------------- End.
