Centuries upon centuries have passed since the creation of the two words, Gran Pulse and Cocoon, by the ancient fal'Cie, and the fear shared between these two worlds has only increased over time. The world below, the wild country of Pulse, is considered to be a land filled with barbarians and monsters by the people of Cocoon, their fears stimulated by the fal'Cie masters backing the government. The situation is no different on Pulse. The clans of this dangerous land live in constant fear of a Cocoon invasion, believing their neighbors to be the subjects of the demon Lindzei and driven only by ambition or greed. For years, both worlds have held an unsteady peace, with few ever daring to venture to the world parallel to their homeland save the few Pulsians supposedly drawn in by the demon's wiles. But fear can be a powerful motivator. As the people of Pulse, motivated by religious fervor and desire to save the weak from the lure of Cocoon, prepare to launch a full-scale assault on Cocoon, so do the Cocoon fal'Cie warn of impending doom and implore the military of the world above, with their great technology, to erase the threat of Pulse invasion. The only thing holding back full-scale war is the need for a spark- an instigator- to set off the wildfire. And the greatest war either world has ever known will be brought to fruition.
