Master Eraqus had spent time in Twilight Town recovering for far too long for his own tastes. He understood the fact that he had been mortally wounded, and that was the only reason he'd stayed as long as he did. His wound still hurt, but not to the point that it would hinder him any more. He needed to find his apprentices. They deserved his apology if nothing else. Perhaps not Aqua, but Terra and Ventus deserved to know how he felt about his actions before his... death. He had acted too hastily, and his stubbornness had allowed Xehanort to turn him against Terra and be killed by that evil man. He had realized his error in that moment before his heart gave out, what felt like so long ago. He had traveled as far as he could from Twilight Town without rest, roughly half the day now, finally stopping when he came to the horseshoe-shaped lake.
Eraqus decided to pause his journey for the time being, sitting down on an old log that was laying by the water. His brown eyes gazed into the water for a long while, lost in his own thoughts. What would he say to them? How could he ever atone for his actions? An apology would never be enough, he knew. He had been wrong, and rather than take an opinion from his student, he had raised his blade against them. In his mind, it was as bad as if he'd done the same to a child of his. What was worse, he had forced Terra to give in to the darkness he had seen in the boy's heart. But then, Eraqus knew that the full blame was not his to bear. Xehanort had played them all like instruments; he used their weaknesses against them. He had manipulated Terra's emotions, his own stubbornness, Ventus' trusting nature and Aqua's duty to turn them all against each other long enough for the evil Keyblade master to murder Eraqus. He was ashamed; he hadn't even been able to defend himself, and had likely doomed his students to their deaths.
If they were even still alive, how would they be able to forgive him for not being able to see what was happening, for him being unable to keep them from going to a battle against an enemy far stronger than they were, and most likely more than that. If he could see them again, then perhaps he could tell them. Perhaps they wouldn't want to hear his words. Eraqus had made up his mind now; he would find them and face whatever judgement they held for him...
