'It can't be true! It can't be...the winds had spoken to Vento and had relayed the news to Scara. Now, she was upon his back, racing towards Esthar. It wasn't true! Esthar wasn't...it couldn't have been. "WARK!" Sugar didn't like being squeezed at the tip of the tail, the smaller green chocobo clinging to the much larger of the two chocobos head for dear life, while the sheep remained asleep as usual.
If ti wasn't such grave news that Vento had told her, she would've enjoyed the ride more; this was the first time in months since she rode upon his back. Vento broke free through the clouds, and the sound of the wind rushing behind them at Vento's forced stopped devoured the small gasp that left her lips. "Do not be hasty, my master."
Scara would have spoken up against calling her that, but she was too much in shock. She remembered Esthar like it was yesterday. As the memories of the place flashed by in her mind, Vento slowly descended, first dipping his tail onto the ground, to allow the animals to debark as he landed too on the ground, though Scara didn't move from his back.
'Uncle...? Un...cle Laguna? Nel? ...Joshua?' Panic set in as Scara bolted off of Vento, though causing her to trip all fall off of him, alarming Vento as he whipped his neck around, watching Scara get up, despite her new cuts and bruises, and ran towards the entrance of Esthar. 'No please! How many have died...how many homes were destroyed...? Who did this...who...'
There was one way to find out. Scara hesitated. She didn't want to know...she didn't. But...she lifted her arms anyways, trying to calm her body at the horrific scene. First came the words of Joshua, leaving Esthar much before its destruction. Then...there was Nel, speaking of being aboard a ship that had escaped Esthar. 'That's good! Everyone--' Then the horrific scenes that followed.
Domminitus and Laguna. The wind around her was no longer calm but they whipped around violently, circulating itself around her, as if forming an unnatural tornado. Scara's eyes opened as she fell to the ground, her eyes wide with fear, sadness, and...frustration. 'Why wasn't I here...? I maybe could have stopped them! I could have---'
Tears started to come as Scara pulled her head forward, starting to cry. Her sobs could not be contained as if the fear and sorrow that these ruins contained were somehow entering her. "Uncle Laguna...!" She sobbed, as if somehow it would bring him back. the air became tense as Scara fought with her emotions.
Domminitus destroyed this place...and left little alive including Laguna. "Scara..." She had almost forgotten her summon was there, his body slowly wrapping around her as Scara immediately sought for the warmth, pressing herself against his fur as she continued to cry. "Hmm?" He was gone, but Scara did not fall, for Sugar was there to catch her.
"Rest." Scara was too saddened to be shocked at the chocobo's sudden speech as Scara clenched the yellow feathers of the bird, unaware of the reason for Vento's sudden disappearance. She had forgotten that he, like Akira, detested that people knew of Scara's power. Seeing her with a beast like him would give people the impression Scara had power.
But he may have been too late.

For the Fallen ... sacrafice.
It's no always comforting to know what waits for you tomorrow. I've always struggled with it. It's not something I'd ever wish on anybody; to know how it all ends. Heh... I can tell you all about tomorrow; how it plain and simply isn't what any of us want. There's always been things beyond a single person's control... and yet, despite it all? This wasn't one of them. We could have done something about it; been together, be strong... united and stopped this from happening. But we wasted manpower and resources on war with each other. Makes you wonder how people can live with themselves. But... they're not the only ones.
Of all the confessions I'd have never had made openly... this crime was mine. I allowed it to happen...
It's difficult to lose so much. To feel the deaths of so many in a measure of minutes that numbered in the few... it strikes a deep chord to hear the sad song play out across the world, a storm in what could be seen as little more than a pond. Esthar was a grand country... its capital a technological and cultural marvel compared to many of the other nations. He knew this would happen. Not that Esthar would be destroyed, no... but he'd known that it was only a matter of time that the greater enemy would grow impatient and strike against the world with more direct force. And those who would be the first to fall would number by the hundreds and thousands. Or millions.
It was also a sign that time would eventually run out.
He knew it would happen. But to know that such a tragedy would occur was one thing... to allow it was quite another. And there was a reason for it. To bring about the sobering realization that the world couldn't function as it had before... that a threat to them all loomed over the horizon and was eager to exercise its strength to destroy them all. And they were good reasons. But... justifications ring hollow when the broken bodies were littered across the rubble beneath your feat. Auric had come here to see it for himself. He'd taken a shuttle from the Ragnarok and landed at Esthar's aerodrome which was the only open ground right now. Little more than semi-clear ground which was nothing more than literally a platform. The building itself having collapsed...
He had to take it all in. To go with a long face, walk about and look for any signs of hope. Like candles in the rain, he knew it was futile to search for that tiny flame flickering in the storm. It wasn't something he brought Faye for... having her remain on board the only way he could have had her from following him was to put her to task. To maintain his airship when she barely understood how it worked. This was something he had to do alone. To see what his decisions had wrought... and to know the price that was paid by those unwilling to pay it. Your lives will not be put to waste... I swear it. It was then that the winds carried a familiar person to the fallen city.
He'd met Scara before. Watching her quietely from the gaps between piles of rubble, he stood still knowing that even a single step might carry his scent in the wrong direction... the wind was a near-whimsical medium when it came to indicating the presence of others. He wasn't hiding. But a moment of grief for the young girl quickly turned to full sorrow. It was like their first meeting. A somber air in the vast expanses of vacant space...he stepped out. His feet were silent as he weaved through the ruins; fragmented concrete little more than gravel were barely heard even as they crunched softly beneath his feet. His hand found the small girl's head as he rubbed her softly through her hair.
He whistled softly a slow song's tune. Auric took a few paces forward as he approached what looked to be a broken beam of steel and hefted it aside...you wouldn't have seen it right away... but there was purely no expression on his face. An insult to smile and even worse was to frown.... his disposition was that of any mere mortals', plowing through the rubble with little more than his gloved hands...
