Nephila had spent a rather restless night within the dilapitated barracks of the soldiers of Baron. It felt unusual to her how far their country had fallen in just a single day. Shaking the notion from her head she exited the barracks the next morning, not in her armor but her off duty clothing. Walking past a few of the soldiers who where lifting the bandits to carry outside the city to bury she would give a simple nod or two to them. She would continue walking through the courtyard of the castle before stopping before the fallen in wall of the castle.
Looking out from the fallen section all she could see was fog and the sickly green water she had the day before slogged through in order to make it back to the castle. Letting out a retching noise she would double over a little as she felt her stomach well up and attempt to escape her esophagus. Holding her stomach with her left arm she would stagger on her feet her right arm holding onto the wall. "Damn it all... Must be sick cause of this fog... Never could stand this all... Or it could be that blade was coated with something I did not know."
Her words short and to the point as she was. Glancing at her side she winced a little in the pain of the wound came over her once again. "Better to just blame that blade than I am actually sick... Cannot be seen as weak or I will be eaten alive by those other soldiers..."

Kain woke in his own bed for the first time in ages. He found it very shocking how easily he slept in his bed that night after years of sleeping on the cold ground in the wilderness. Half sleeping for fear of being attacked in his slumber. But this night he slept deep and even dreamed. The dream was troubling however he dreamed he was fighting Cecil and at the end he did the unspeakable. He shook the dream off as his own guilt.
He headed down from the tower and headed over to the barracks to check on the soldiers. He greeted this soldiers as he saw them coming he was out in his armour as usual but today he carried his helmet. He wanted the soldiers to see his face for once. As he walked up the steps he spotted Nephila hunched over at the wall he walked over to her and placed his hand on her shoulder. “You don’t look well soldier. Should I find a healer?” At the mention of a healer a face popped into his head but he couldn’t place a name to it. He shook it off and waited for the young soldier to reply.

Standing there staggered she was unprepared for the sudden hand upon her shoulder. Instinctively she would attempt to grab the hand and twist it but upon seeing the distinctive armor she would not. Keeping her back toward him she would hear him speak up toward her. Keeping her arm around her stomach she would hold onto the wall strongly attempting to keep herself upright. "I am fine... Something has just upset my stomach. I blame it on either my swim in the moat or an unknown poison on the bandits blades..."
With that her hardened face would show a little bit of emotion as her usually kept up hair had fallen around her face obscuring her from Kain. It was not long before she would speak up again. "I am sorry Lord Kain... I should of not been in combat yesterday. Before I took the mission I was on a few days ago I felt some illness come over me yet I did not hesitate and I left on it. My sigil drains my longterm strength in exchange for short term bonuses and when I use it I assume that it has made this illness worse."

Kain Realized she had taken the risks she had done so to protect Baron. "Do not apologize you did what you had to in order protect baron. King Cecil would commend your valor yesterday. As to weather it was poison or the moat I can't say. What I can say is you need to rest so you can serve at you're full ability." He of all people understood a warrior's pride, So he tried not to make his concerns sound as tho they were charity. "I haven't felt any poison personally but I've built minor immunity since my trials on Mt. Ordeals. But come lets get you to the infirmary soldier."

She knew that the illness she had was probable something of a bug by this point as she was still feeling sick. Staggered she would still be holding onto the wall to keep her balance. "You wish to take me to the infirmary and yet I do not wish to go Lord Kain. There have been many a occasion that I have been ill each time I refused care and just gritted through it all. The pain and exhaustion this causes me is nothing..."
It was evident as she spoke that Naphila was hiding behind her words and was still in much pain. She would take a couple of steps away from the wall and walked forward. Clutching her head she would sway and stagger a little bit before suddenly falling forward. Falling hard she would make a rather loud thudding noise as her body landing on the stone of the courtyard. Out from her mouth you would hear a simple "Oof..."
The side she had been cut on was bleeding outwardly coating her shirt with her own blood as she laid was against the ground.

Kain watched as the soldier stumbled and rushed to her as she began to fall, but he wasn't fast enough. She hit the floor and began to bleed out. "WE NEED BANDAGES OVER HERE IMMEDIATELY!!" He cried out knowing one of the soldiers would obey. He knelt down and kept pressure on her side trying to keep the bleeding down. He was worried he had very little experience with wounds of this size. He tried as best he could to keep the bleeding down until a soldier finally arrived with bandages. He began to lift her shirt and then hesitated. "I beg your pardon but I'm going to have to patch you up." He lifted the shirt conserving her modesty best as he could, and bandaged her side. "I'm afraid that trip to the infirmary is no longer a request it's an order."

Not being in much of a state to protest Nephila would only move her arm as if in a reflex to cover herself and save giving the gathered soldiers a free peepshow. Her arm would hug itself tightly against her body allowing Kain to access her wound. The only noises that would come from Nephila was a few winces and hurt noises coming from her as Kain would bandage the cut.
Inside her mind Nephila would be having the most vivid nightmare of her life. Screams would echo within her head as she saw over and over again the deaths of her family. Damcyan was being leveled by the Red Wings and she could do nothing to stop it. She was standing there in her current look and would see nothing but the blood and gore strew about the ruins of the city block that was once her home. :: No... No.. This cannot. be real again. I got past this... became stronger from it... I feed on this destruction now, I am one with the sorrow and cries of the battlefield... I.. I.. ::
Her head was swimming as she felt herself start awake. The sudden movement made her move and attempt to sit up. Attempting to sit up she would make it to a partial sitting position before she would feel pain shoot into her and she would fall back onto a soft mattress. The spinning feeling in her head did not go away as her eyes focused and she would raise her left hand up and onto her forehead. :: Great I must have passed out... Mustve hit my head hard as I still cannot get things straight... ::
"Nurse... I need a bit of help here please..." With her first words coming out in a while she felt her throat scratch in dryness. Groping out with her hand she felt the haze over her eyes slowly begin to lift.

Kain headed back to the infirmary. He had been helping rebuild the inn so people would have a place to sleep while there homes were being rebuilt. When he entered the room he noticed Nephila had finally woken up. He heard her call out for help her voice was dry . All of the nurses were busy with other patients. He brought her a water skin and placed it in her hand. "here" He could tell she had just came to. "You've recovered fast. The healers said you held off on coming here any longer and you might not have made it."

Sitting there she felt her head spinning back and making it so she could at least see straight. Watching before her she would look toward a nearby window her attention fully diverted when she heard a voice speak up and a water skin placed into her hands. The voice rang into her head and echoed around inside. Taking a drink from within the waterskin she would set it back down upon her lap and turned toward the voice.
Seeing Kain standing there she would close her eyes and lean back against the raised bed. "Go figure that I would push myself to near the breaking point once again... Tend to do that quite often. Trying to show that I am a cut above as I am the only female soldier in the army. I know that I am not skilled in the magical arts to distinguish myself in that manner. So I tend to push and overextend myself..."
As she spoke her eyes where closed and she seemed a bit dismissive for the first time she was acting almost like a normal woman. Gripping the waterskin rather tightly she woud take another drink from within it before speaking up again. "Lord Kain I understand that I should and do not need to push myself as hard as I do, but for me it is I feel as you do. In order to keep myself at my peak I train almost constantly... But it is not enough I can tell... My body can be taken down by such a simple thing as this poison and it makes me feel vulnerable..."

Kain heard her words, and they seemed familiar. A soldier eager to prove there medal. He knew all too well what she had gone through. "I can understand your situation.all too often men don't think women can do well as warriors. And when women try they notice every mistake and every weakness as further proof they don't belong. But I've done much traveling in my time and I've met many women who were ten times better than half the male soldiers I've known." Kain recognized the admiration in her voice he didn't know how to feel about it. He was nothing to be admired in his mind, true he was probably one of the best fighters in all of baron. That wasn't a thought of pride, his accomplishments could not be denied even by humility. But his emotional and mental state were a wreck. Despite his calm exterior he dealt with a deal of self doubt, and some form of envy that once turned him on Cecil. "I understand where you're coming from. I've almost died a hundred times training up on Mount Ordeals, and while that has made me strong, in hindsight I'm not sure it was worth it. But I can say this. If you ever doubt your right to serve this kingdom or fight as a warrior. Remember while every other soldier was hold up in the keep you and only two other warriors took on a host of murderous bandits, and you saved your home. You should be proud of that"

Nephila looked over at Kain her expression was one of a mixture of sadness and a simple admiration for the man. Listening to him speak she would keep her eyes glued to him. To her this man was the exemplification of everything that she wished to be and yet she could see that even within him there is some self doubt. Holding the waterskin tightly she would listen to him until he finished speaking about almost dieing upon Mount Ordeals. Then came his pep talk about how she was one of the three people that managed to rise up and fight the bandits that had invaded her home. That and she had injured and nearly killed the head bandit by herself.
A rather faint smile was on her face as she remembered all that. "True I was there and helped fight the bandits... I guess that I still no matter the circumstances see the negatives of my actions in combat. It is good to hear though that someone of your stature sees some promise inside my rusty tactics."
With her words spoken Nephila would feel a little more of her strength of been returned to her thanks to the water and the impromtu rest. With her returned strength she would attempt to stand as she did she would feel her legs give out some and she would tumble against Kain. "I am sorry Lord Kain..." As she spoke she would turn her head away an evident blush on her face.

"Every good warrior is there own worse critic, and there's nothing wrong with always seaking to better yourself but once in a while it's good to pat yourself on the back." He knew the feeling after all in his own mind. Even with his skills being what they were, and having helped to defeat Zemus he still felt like he was never enough.
He was uneasy when he saw Nephila start to get up. He wasn't sure she was ready yet, and sure enough he was right. Kain caught her as she fell against him. When she blushed and apologized it was the first time he had really felt like he was talking to a woman and not just another soldier. "Nothing to apologize for soldier, but try taking it slow. You're still recovering" He helped her to sit up on the bed

Staggered from her attempt to stand she allowed Kain to assist her back to the bed. Sitting on the edge of the bed she would lower her head into her hands as she felt herself being so weak and helpless. Her white hair covering her face as she kept her head down inside of her hands. "I still feel like the same person who watched my home be destroyed by the Red Wings so long ago... So weak and yet helpless to stop the bloodbath that was occuring around me."
As she spoke she was holding back emotions that where eroding away her stony exterior. She could not stop all of her overflowing emotions however and a few tears would begin running down her face and onto her hands. "It still is hard to visualize as Damcyan burned around me I vowed to become strong enough to never allow it to happen to another place I call home. Then I saw what occured here... And I feel like I lost it and wanted to make each and every one of those bastards pay for what they had done to Baron... I wanted to stab each of their corpses and feel their lifeforce exit each of them as I took out some measure of vengeance on them... "
As she spoke she would be giving off quick sobs and would be seen shaking some. "I took pleasure in the fighting and I felt an almost euphoric feeling as we fought those bandits. The rush of and din of battle make me forget the past and focus on the present..."

Kain remembered how Cecil had come back from that mission he was sick at the thought of what he had done. Was she aware she was serving the man that had lead the attack on her home? Was she aware of his remorse for his crimes. "I remember that day. It was the day I decided I could no longer obey my king. It wasn't until later that I found out that it wasn't even my king who gave those orders." Kain pulled up a chair and sat next to the bed. He felt this girl was a kindred spirit. It was rare that Kain open up to someone as much as he had to her. Perhaps it was because she had opened up to him and allowed herself to be vulnerable around him. She started crying. This made Kain uneasy. He could never handle a crying woman. Kain had spent most of his life keeping his emotions off his face. He placed his hand on her shoulder in an attempt to calm her. "I know what you mean I felt great rage when the monsters corrupted Baron from the inside. True they didn't destroy the building but the corrupted what we stood for, our honor. And when I saw it burning like this the rage returned I know it scarcely showed my blood was boiling. Keeping my feelings in check are how I've survived this long." He heard her begin to talk about a sensation he was all to familiar with. "The world fades away and for a moment all that matters is landing the next hit dodging the next blow. Finding an opening and putting and end to your opponent. It's a high that overwhelms some warriors." He wasn't sure what to say anymore, but he began to think she needed him to say anything. It sounded like she needed to let this out, like it had to be welling for a long time.

His words would affect Nephila in the way that she would at least stop crying the tears of frustration and anger at herself. Hearing how Kain had made up his mind upon that day that he was no longer going to be able to follow the orders of the former king of Baron made her mind do a one eighty. As to her he would of never questioned his orders not even in the slightest capability. Raising her hand up she would wipe away the tears from her right eye as she heard him move the chair closer so that he could speak to her. Then came the feeling she was not used to at all. The touch of someone else. Sure it was upon her shoulder and not anywhere else and yet she felt uncomfortable with even this light touch of concern from Kain.
Unease in the pit of her stomach would be replaced with a warmth of a kindred soul attempting to reach her as Kain spoke once again. Hearing him speak of the rage and of how it was the corruption of Baron that made him fill with such venom. :: If only he knew that I have seen the records involving the incident in Damcyan. I know the Red Wings where under the command of a Golbez. But I also know that Golbez is gone from this land as he vanished during that climatic battle outside of Eblan. So my vengeance shall never be sated until my death. ::
Her internal thoughts where a violent mismash of attempts of calming herself down and of thought of violently striking out against everything. Listening to him speak of his own experience of the euphoria of combat gave her a smile on her face. When he finished speakin gshe would turn her face to look at him. "You know I do not talk to much about these tpes of things... I prefer to keep my emotions close to the vest as it makes me a more efficient soldier. But it seems I need to get this stuff off my chest. .."
She would move her white hair out of her face so that he would be able to see it as she spoke. "Lord Kain I have known all along that Baron was the one who attacked my home, but it was not this noble Baron. It was the underhanded and corrupt Baron that made your blood boil over that attacked us in such a cowardly manner. Initially I came here with my families secret and strength in an attempt to bring to justice those who had done the crime, but it was unessecary as Lord Cecil had taken care of it all himself. I felt foolish that I had allowed that singular call for vengeance to overwhelm my senses so from that day on I have served as best I can. Learning from what I could from those that remained when you left Lord Kain. I have tried to make myself resemble what I would call a dragoon, but with the fact that I use a two handed claymore not a spear. Plus the fact I do not jump through the air, nor have I ever fought a dragon like I have heard that you have."
Her emotions where more under check by now and she would give a smile to Kain as she felt the calm that was inside her overwhelm most of her senses. "Thank you for listening to me Kain..."
