Scara had no idea what this was about but here she was, standing here, looking at the ground nervously, waiting for her blind date. She was out in Besaid, again, when she got the message that she was supposed to be here for a blind date she was signed up for. Scara was sure she hadn't signed herself up for this blind date, but she couldn't keep her date waiting.
She never went on a date before, or met many guys here in the first place, so it was very nerve-racking for her. She remembered her friend telling her she was always nervous around men, when they encountered the very few males on Gran Pulse. Scara, of course, would assume male due to the fact her mind didn't even think of having a girl for a date.
Scara looked left and right slowly, looking for her blind date. What if he didn't get the letter...or someone was playing a cruel joke on her? Scara sighed at the thought. That would be very mean of them, but Scara had to take the benefit of the doubt and go with it. After all, what if this was real? She would have made some boy pretty mad!

lift your open hand strike up the band make the fireflies dance silver moon sparkling ;;
Nervously running a hand through his gelled hair once more, probably mussing up each carefully-placed strand to something resembling his natural hairstyle, Maqui resisted the urge to stuff his hands into his vest pockets as he wandered through the small dining room, looking for a table marked with a pink rose.
Yeah, he was wearing a vest. Against his own better judgment, he was wearing a gray vest over a crisp white dress shirt, and nice black slacks. Not wearing his several-sizes-too-large jacket was such a strange occurrence that he felt cold at points when he shouldn't - as the night was reasonably warm, and he wasn't underdressed. He'd discarded the rest of his usual outfit along with that coat, but the headphones he just refused to give up.
Call it superstition, but he'd worn those at every moment (nearly, the things weren't waterproof after all) since he'd received the basic pair without his modifications two years ago. All in all, his outfit was strange, but he was happy with how cleaning himself up had turned out after receiving that letter about a blind date that someone he didn't know had arranged.
He would be weirded out if he hadn't already given up figuring out how in the name of the Maker they knew who he was. Now his mission was just to find his date, probably some cute girl dressed plainly in a mildly-flattering dress.
Where was the rose, now? That was supposed to be the giveaway - there, three tables up, almost in the corner. And that must be his date, then. Cute in the natural kind of way.
"Hey," he said in greeting, giving a little nod and taking it upon himself to pull her chair out for her. Tapping back into the little bit of dating he'd done in his first years of high school, he sorted through icebreakers for one that seemed appropriate for the moment. "Nice night, huh?"

Scara was surprised when he suddenly came out of nowhere, shooting her head up to see him. She smiled nervously at him. She never had been on a date before so it was nerve racking. Scara saw him pull out a chair for her. "T-Thank you." She said quietly, shuddering just slightly as she took her seat at the table.
She hadn't met a boy quite like him before, though she hadn't been meeting a lot of boys lately either. She assumed right away he wasn't from her world, unless he adapted to the clothing of some other world. For Scara, she was still wearing the same nice, clean, plain white dress with her mother's pendant around her neck. Scara was glad not to be the first one to talk.
"It's a very nice night." She tried to not sound as nervous as she felt, but at least she didn't shudder. She was impressed, though, that the boy wasn't as nervous as her, or seemed nervous at all. Despite her being a total stranger, he greeted her nicely and he treated her so nicely too. Scara started to relax a little bit at his calmness.
What was there to be scared about?

All things considered, he figured he hadn't gotten the short end of the stick on this one. Though she was shy, she seemed nice, and he knew he probably would have been as she if he hadn't given himself what could barely pass as a peptalk beforehand.
Get out of this, make sure it doesn't blow up in his face, and move on.
So Maqui could only wait for something to happen - a waiter, as presumably their table and dinner had already been paid for, or the girl to say something else. Maybe introduce herself - that was a place to start, as the weather had not seemed to work as much of an icebreaker.
"My friends call me Maqui. Nice to meet you." With an encouraging smile, somewhere in the back of his mind he wondered if this was turning less into a blind date and more into a self-confidence exercise.

At least talking about the weather started to calm Scara down. She just needed to get used to being around a man. Well, he was a boy technically but to Scara, there was no word difference between man and boy besides the masculinity between one and the other. Scara calmed down to the point where she wasn't studdering anymore as she introduced herself, smiling slightly.
"My name's Scara. It's a pleasure to meet you, Maqui." At least her steady voice told him she was calming down, gaining more self confidence, and it wouldn't be completely an awkward date. However, though it was unlikely, he would know that if any surprises were to happen, Scara would be back to square one like a kicked puppy.
Scara wasn't one to strike up conversations, but she wanted to try. He was being so nice to her and to clam up on him didn't feel right. "This is a nice place for a date, isn't it?" Scara asked, smiling bigger. She had gotten over the fact that this was her first date, and some of her nervousness at this point, thankfully.

"My name's Scara. It's a pleasure to meet you, Maqui."
Scara. Cute without being too artificial, he thought the name fit, Maqui thought sort of in her direction with the little - very little - actual dating experience he'd had. If he had been more of a Romeo, he might have said that out loud, but this was 1) a blind date and 2) a blind date with two very shy people.
Well. He was normally shy. But that was usually because the threat of Lebreau or Yuj looming over him was enough to scare him into submission, for fear of the torture they would exact for their own pleasure or amusement. Gadot would simply sit there and laugh, and Snow wouldn't know where to intervene.
"This is a nice place for a date, isn't it?"
Oh, gods, that question required an answer, didn't it? Hoping he could get away with a placid nod and a muttered word of agreement, Maqui's nervousness set in full-force as the napkin came loose from its silverware in his hand. His nervous tic was compulsively folding, and the white piece of linen had already gained three different creases by the time he thought of something else to say.
"S-So, Scara, where're you from?" Forcibly laying down the fabric square on his plate, he buried his hands deep into his vest pockets to toy with whatever lint was left over in them.

Scara blinked at the nod. Now she was starting to get a little nervous again. Was she doing this date thing wrong? This date's turnout was up in the air for as Maqui got more confident, Scara got more confident. When Maqui got more nervous, she got more nervous. However, Scara got even more nervous when Maqui asked her where she was from.
The last time she was she was from Bodhum, she got questioned and eventually told her where she was from. This time, she had to pick a new place. However, the silence and obvious nervousness may have given her away that she was going to lie about where she was from. "I-I'm from Palumpolum." She said. She couldn't tell him she was from Gran Pulse.
That might just ruin the date. What if he was from Cocoon and he hated Pulsians? That would make things a lot worse from a nice, shy blind date...to an all-out blood bath. Not very romantic at all. Though, she wished she could stop these lies and truly tell people the truth. However, with her life on the line, she couldn't do it. The truth might set one free, but it could kill her too.

Her nervousness was kind of weird. If he didn't know better, he'd say she was thinking quick to come up with some kind of a reasonable lie. But he knew better - the girl, Scara, she was just nervous. Even more than he was, and with better reason.
"I-I'm from Palumpolum."
"O-Oh! I've been there before. Really pretty. I'm from Bodhum," Maqui said, trying to sink lower in his chair and praying fervently to the Maker that a waiter would show up soon.
He felt guilty, as evidently his and her anxiety was directly proportional, but damn it this was awkward. The blond wished he were more like Yuj, charismatic and exciting so there was at least someone to lead the conversation.
"The service here..." He hadn't meant to say that, but he sighed anyway.

Scara relaxed visibly when he didn't harbor suspicion on her lies. However, she was glad she didn't tell the truth - he had been the Palumpolum before. She was also glad that she didn't say Bodhum, for he lived there. She thanked Lady Luck, but also felt bad. A Cocoonian and a Pulsian on a blind date...it was very unlikely. But it happened and there they were, nervous wrecks.
"Bodhum? I've been there once." This was the truth, and Scara was tired of coming up with lies over lies anyways. Scara knew someone had to strike the conversation. But his and her nervousness seemed connected, somehow, or rather a chain reaction. Scara swallowed hard trying to think of anything that would get her killed but move the conversation.
Scara heard him mention about the service as Scara looked around. She had little experience in a restaurant so she didn't know much about service. However, in her looking around, apparently a waiter finally noticed them and approached the two. "Sorry about that! We're a bit busy today with it being valentine's day and all. What can I get for you?"
