Eidolons: Their history and names

These mystical entities reveal themselves before only a select few l'Cie. It is said that they are saviors, come to rescue helpless l'Cie who find themselves bound to a Focus against their will. If this is true, they offer a salvation few indeed would seek willingly: without exception, Eidolons attack the l'Cie whose presence they grace.

There have been no l'Cie in Cocoon for centuries, and as a result, no way of determining the truth behind tales of these beings. To the citizens of Cocoon, they remain the stuff of bedtime stories.



Eidolons date back eons ago, to when the first human interacted with and discovered a Fal'cie back on Gran Pulse. This first human wast the first l'cie and the first one to ever discover what an Eidolon was. Back then the Fal'cie were far more merciful however, and that first l'cie had been marked upon his will. Through this first l'cie's adventure his thoughts wavered, fears, and uncertainty seemed to rule his every movement when a being.. an avatar of his negativity summoned itself from him. This was the first eidolon, Regal in its appearance, a large Knight that stood before the l'cie, offering salvation few would ever take.

However the l'cie fought this avatar of his negativity, and tamed it. Now able to summon this being in times of need in battle. However it seemed that the Eidolon and his l'cie were psychologically connected as well as almost physically. The damage that the l'cie suffered also was suffered by the eidolon, and vice versa. The two could speak to one another through the link, and in battle they were unstoppable. The Eidolon and the l'cie completed the focus together. And the l'cie crystallized somewhere within the depths of Pulse's mountains, Eidolon hibernating somewhere else on a different plane.

The origins of these creatures is speculated to be the core of the calamity. It is said that at the core of the ruined world is where the eidolons make their homes. These living creatures are attracted to a l'cie's fears and negative energies, and will manifest a phantom of themselves. This phantom is something the l'cie must battle and survive to tame the eidolon that had created it. Once tamed the eidolon is a powerful ally in battle, and a powerful ally out of battle. In battle the array of powers that the creatures have are an asset to any team.. Out of battle they provide a sort of support system for the l'cie if their resolve ever wavered after.
